The project involved moving the Leroy D. William Memorial Library to River Road, positioned next to the Mississippi River. The suggested location boasts lush woodlands with ancient trees and currently features several houses designed in a traditional vernacular style – characterized by wooden siding and trim, expansive verandas, and lofty ceilings. The site and library design worked carefully around two existing Live Oak trees. Large deck spaces were created beneath them to connect the various buildings and create gathering spaces. A children’s sensory play area and nature trail are integrated into the back of the site. As per the proposed concept, one of these historic structures was relocated and renovated to serve as a central campus for community history activities. Situated to the east of the St. John Theatre, the project site, along with the library and existing house, form a vibrant civic center in the heart of Reserve. The site includes shared parking, pathways, and garden spaces, connecting the Theatre and library area.
